Community Consultation and Communication Policy
INTRODUCTION
The Board of Trustees will build an effective partnership between the School and the Community through consultation and communication with its community in the spirit of the Tapora School philosophy and mission statement.
OBJECTIVES
1. To encourage community input into the school by seeking and considering community views, aspirations.
2. To maintain a partnership with our community and be responsive to its cultural needs and wishes.
3. To keep the school community informed of issues and developments relating to the school and the Board of Trustees.
4. To confirm our effectiveness and further improve performance.
5. To develop school goals and achievement targets.

GUIDELINES
1. Review: Within realistic and practical boundaries, the school will endeavour to consult extensively and appropriately with the school community during school reviews including:
o Annual Charter review involving Planning and Reporting requirements (Education Standard Act)
o Board of Trustees Triennial programme of self review (Policies, procedures and guidelines)
2. Identified needs-driven reviews

3. Consultation: The school will consult with its community in the following ways:
o Students will be encouraged to express concerns and make suggestions for improvements through the Student Council.
o Parents will be encouraged to express concerns or make suggestions for improvements by formal consultation (surveys, newsletters, purpose meetings and hui, questionnaires) directly contacting the school, Board member or through the Home and School Association.
o The Principal and Board will provide opportunities for consultation and feedback through newsletters, parent evenings, and other school and community meetings as appropriate.
o The Board will provide the School community with prior knowledge of venues, times and dates of Board of Trustees’

meetings in advance in the School newsletter and on the School notice board.
4. Communication: The school will report to the community in the following ways:
o Newsletters will be sent home on a fortnightly cycle and communicate information, initiatives, concerns and encourage parent feedback
o Newsletters will contain monthly reports from the Board of Trustees meetings
o The staff representative on the BOT will report to staff either verbally or in writing following each BOT meeting.
o Confirmed BOT minutes will be available for the community in the school office
o Formal reporting: The school will report to the community in the following ways:
o The BOT Chairperson and Principal will report annually to the school community at the end of year assemblies.
o An Annual written report will be made to the community
